This month, thieves stole about $6,000 worth of fruit from Corey Lake Orchards LLC, a 250-acre specialty-crop operation in Three Rivers where, until recently, organized theft had not happened before. After a May 9 freeze wiped out most of her sweet and tart cherries, early apples and 60% of her peaches, Beth Hubbard of Corey Lake Orchards said the farm’s now looking for new ways to add security so more unharvested fruit isn’t stolen. Some options include investments in field cameras and floodlights, and added communication with the local county sheriff and neighbors.
Any farmers out there with any suggestions for Beth at Corey Lake Orchards in Three Rivers.
